Carney Crosses Fourth With ASCS Red River At Texas Motor Speedway

EL PASO, Texas (September 14, 2016) John Carney II rolled to a fourth place finish at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track on Saturday, September 10 with the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley’s Racing Products.

Behind the wheel of the Scott Brown owned Lubbock Wrecker Service / Mesilla Valley Transportation No. 11x, the night began with a runner-up in John's Heat Race after starting fifth. The finish put Carney in the redraw where he was able to pull the fifth starting spot in the feature event.

Jumping to second on the start, John went side-by-side with Johnny Herrera several times for the lead before the pair worked into slower traffic.

“I was determined not to follow anyone into the corner on the start and going down the front straight, the top was open so I ran it in wide open and it stuck,” said Carney of the quick move to the front. “After that, I pretty much set sail with that line. I did peel off and try to run low a few times, but I just couldn’t get it to stick down there.”

Falling to third in traffic, Carney had a fight on his hands as a fueling issue was causing the engine to stumble off the corners, “The car ran good when I was by myself, but when I had to start rolling in and out of the throttle behind lapped cars, that’s when it would start to mess up. We had a restart with five to go, and it finally did clean out and run so we’re not sure what was going on.”

Racing with Blake Hahn the final five laps, Hahn would finally get the pass on Carney coming to the checkered flag for the third position.

“Obviously, we would have liked to have won, but just getting the team rolling, I was happy. I can’t thank Scott [Brown] enough for letting me run his car. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the season and seeing what we can do.”

Up next for Carney is the Ralph Henson Memorial at Little Rock’s I-30 Speedway in the Lubbock Wrecker Service No. 11x. Following that, the team will make the trip to Lucas Oil Speedway for the Hockett/McMillin Memorial.
